Equisetum arvense L. with strobili in late April in New Hampshire

Equisetum arvense L. is a small herbaceous plant growing, in this case, along a disturbed roadside in New Hampshire.  In this picture, you can see the shape of the sporophylls and the off white sporangia.  The stems, later in the season, are green and straight with branches off the main stem.  It is in the plant family Equisetaceae.
